Our goal is to create a unified outreach to our members, retirees, and citizens within the community. For our retirees we will recognize, support, and be a liaison for them in the future. Through coalitions, networking, and member support, we will be able to create opportunities to volunteer our services for charitable organizations. As a result, by reaching out to our members, retirees, and community we hope to assist in reaching positive outcomes to many of life’s challenges.
Community Service Committee Collecting for Kids’ Meals Houston
More and more children in the Houston area go hungry each day due to the increase in food and gas prices. Layoffs and downsizing have more families finding themselves in need of food.
Starting at the May 18, 2010 local lodge meeting, the Community Service Committee will be collecting non perishable foods as well as juice, wheat bread, and snacks. When donating, also think about child friendly items such as Easy Mac, granola bars, fruit cups, etc.
In addition to food items, Kids’ Meals Houston accepts arts-n-crafts material like construction paper, crayons, pre-school reading books, coloring books, etc.
“Houston has been very good to Continental Airlines over the years, this is an easy way for us to give something back,” said Community Service Committee member Jessica McKee.
Kids’ Meals Houston is a 501(c)3 non-profit, community based organization, serving healthy lunches to 1,200 hungry pre-school aged children, living in poverty. They provide and deliver nutritious meals directly to their homes, free of cost to the families, Monday through Friday, year-round all over Houston.
Kids' Meals has hundreds of children on their waiting list ready to be fed. These meals cost $1.50 per child and $ donations are always accepted. We need your help to fulfill the mission to keep our children from going to bed hungry.
