In 1993, President William Jefferson Clinton signed into Federal Law, The Family Medical Leave Act. FMLA gives employees the ability to take time off from work for certain family medical reason(s) without penalty or retribution from an employer. This allows employees the ability to balance work and family medical obligations while providing an element of job security during a leave period. The Family Medical Leave Compliance Committee, is a group of flight attendants dedicated to educating and assisting our members with the FMLA process. This includes but is not limited to:
In addition your FMLA Committee will work hand in hand with the internal bodies of the IAM, your Grievance Committee, Human Rights Committee and Legislative Committee. All of these entities have procedures in place to ensure your rights to the appeal process, your equal rights are adhered to, legislative law changes, and medical entitlement for all employees and families. We are all stakeholders under the current provisions of FMLA. We all have an obligation to participate in changing / improving as many provisions under the current Law, to benefit our medical needs. Our Mission, through education, is to establish an informed group of Flight Attendants who understand their rights within the realm of our IAM Contract, dictated and monitored by Federal law, in order to protect their families and their futures, without their jobs being put at risk. In Solidarity, IAMAW LL2339H FMLA Compliance Committee

We are here to guide you through the process. Cherrie Hildreth, FMLA Chairperson & Committee (281) 772- 9247 COMMON SENSE FMLA TECHNICAL CORRECTIONS ACT FOR CREW MEMBERS Please contact your Local Politicians in support of H.R. 2744 (see below) H.R. 2744 passed in the house introduced by Representative Timothy Bishop(D-NY) To address the problem for flight crew's Senator Hillary Clinton(D-NY), introduced the Airline flight Crew Technical Correction Act (S.2059) currently in committee. This common sense measure would bring airline flight crews under the provisions of the FMLA by considering the unique situations faced by airline employees. Specifically, the bill states that flight crews will be eligible for FMLA benefits if they have been paid for or have worked 60% of a full-time schedule at THEIR airline. Continental Flight Attendant's have FMLA language in our contract. Members of Congress clearly articulated their understanding that flight crews should NOT be excluded from FMLA PROTECTIONS. Flight crew language is inclusive under (both bills), and it is vital we show our support and voice for all flight crew members, also to strengthen the current FMLA Provisions in our contract. The International Assoc. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers urge Congress to pass the Airline Flight Crew Technical Corrections Act. This is a fair and well-deserved benefit that MUST apply to all airline flight crew members as it does the work forces across the entire economy.
