New Officers Sworn In Today! ExpressJet F/As The System seniority list is out! Every FA should take the time to check her/his seniority date and then review the ten flight attendants above their name and below their name. If there is a discrepancy, notify your union rep ASAP!! ExpressJet Scheduling Your union reps. keep reminding you to write down the name of the scheduler, the date and time you spoke to them. This information is necessary to investigate any problems you may encounter with Scheduling and will make your case stronger. Remember ALWAYS CYA!!! Grievance representatives will be attending a meeting with Scheduling in ATL on January 18. We have a laundry list of items to address and will report on the meeting in next week’s update. Please continue to let your reps. know of any issues you are encountering with the Scheduling department. The situation will not improve if we do not address problems with the company as they occur. ExpressJet - Rainmaker This week we found that Holiday Pay was not correctly calculated. The $5 add pay per hour was paid for flight pay only when it should have been paid for all hours away from base on a holiday. Also, Incentive Pay for December was not paid out. The company was immediately made aware of this and payroll was working on correcting the shortages. We were advised that Incentive pay will be paid on Monday and checks FEDEXED to the f/as affected. Payroll has not yet advised when the Holiday Pay will be paid. Please check your sick bank. We have advised the company that only 3.75 hrs per month are being accrued. The ExpressJet contract is 4:00 hrs per month. Again, we will let you know when this is corrected. You may view your accruals at: www.ourasa.com , My Items, My Records, Profile, Time Off Accruals. For all ExpressJet F/As Please continue to submit your contract proposals via the District Lodge website at: www.iamdl142.org/fa/ExpressJetNegotiations ExpressJet/Atlantic Southeast Transition Q&A 1. The IAM has won the election. Now what? The IAM has deployed IAM Representatives to every Atlantic Southeast base to answer questions and support the Flight Attendant membership until IAM Locals are set up and elections are held. Current representation for ExpressJet Flight Attendants will not be affected. 2. What happens to outstanding ExpressJet Flight Attendant grievances? The IAM will have the legal responsibility to process outstanding grievances the AFA-CWA properly transfers to the IAM. The IAM will immediately review all outstanding grievances and contact Flight Attendants who filed the grievances. If you have questions about a specific grievance you filed, you can call 855-492-8755 3. If I want to file a grievance, who do I contact? Atlantic Southeast Flight Attendants should contact the IAM Representatives assigned to your base. You can also call the Flight Attendant Hotline at 855-492-8755 for assistance.
ExpressJet Flight Attendants should continue to contact your base Grievance Representatives. 4. Do I still work under the terms of my contract? Yes. Nobody’s contract has changed as a result of the election. The terms in place before the election remain intact until a combined agreement is negotiated and ratified.
The IAM has assumed administration and enforcement of the Atlantic Southeast Flight Attendant contract, and we will enforce and defend the terms of that contract as it applies to pre-merger ASA Flight Attendants. The IAM’s responsibility for the ExpressJet contract continues without change. 5. What happens to our negotiations? The IAM will now negotiate a single contract for the combined Flight Attendant group. More information about negotiations will be available shortly. The latest information will always be available on the IAM District 142 website, www.go142.org. A bargaining survey is already available on that site, and a form to submit contract proposals will be available immediately. 6. Who do we call if we need union representation? Atlantic Southeast—Until Locals are set up at ASA bases, you can call the IAM Flight Attendant Hotline at 1-855-432-8755 to be put in touch with an IAM Representative in your location. Contact information will also be posted at www.go142.org.
ExpressJet Flight Attendants should continue to contact a Grievance Representative at their base. 7. Will my dues change? Atlantic Southeast Flight Attendants will continue paying the same amount of dues they paid under their previous union until a combined contract is negotiated and ratified by the membership. At that time, dues will be in the amount set by the membership of each Local as approved in their bylaws.
2012 monthly dues for ExpressJet Flight Attendants are set in accordance with the member-approved Local bylaws. Umpire Rules CWA-AFA Violated AFL-CIO Constitution October 06, 2011 - In July, 2011, the Communication Workers of America (CWA) filed charges with the AFL-CIO alleging the IAM violated the AFL-CIO Constitution by posting the election interference charges it filed with the National Mediation Board in the United/Continental/Continental Micronesia Flight Attendant election on a website for Flight Attendants to review. The independent umpire assigned by the AFL-CIO found the IAM was in compliance with the AFL-CIO Constitution, stating: “an affiliate is entitled to keep its membership abreast of an ongoing dispute regarding the validity of an election.” With regard to the communications CWA provided Flight Attendants during the election, however, the impartial umpire ruled:
Under a separate section of the AFL-CIO Constitution, the CWA also sought to force the IAM to withdraw its election protest with the NMB, claiming it had achieved final representation certification for the combined Flight Attendant group. The independent umpire rejected CWA’s bid and stated that granting the CWA’s request would come at the cost of “depriving IAM and the very substantial number of workers who supported it of an opportunity that the law has long provided…” The complete rulings are available below and at www.iamnow.org .
